Sabile Wine Hill
Sabile Wine Hill is oficially the world’s most northern vineyard, as mentioned in Guiness World Records Book.
Height of Wine Hill is 33.7m (about 115m above sea level), area of the vineyard is 1.5 hectares.
The production of wine took place here already in 16th century but rebirth of the vineyard began in 1936. Then WWII stopped its development which again restarted in 1989. This vineyard has been so important to the town of Sabile, that the wine grape has become the symbol of the town and is displayed on its coat of arms.
The best time of the year when to visit Sabile and its wineyard is the last weeks of July when Sabile Wine Festival takes place. In 2009 Wine Festival will be held on July 25th.

Sory but this is not exactly correct. Northernmost wineyard is Hallingstad vinery in Horten, Norway - near Oslo, established in 1992 and produced wine until 2002. Now it stopped business but technically this still is northernmost wineyard in the world.

In Finland at Oliluoto there is also one winery even more to the north - that one is warmed by atomic power plant, so may be this does not count…

Well, this whole thing is from the Guiness World Records Book. Wineyard of Sabile is all natural, and it produces wine available for the public. I guess there must be some criteria met to get into the Book, but that’s what Sabile did.

Well, there are many grapeyards and winehills in Estonia, so Sabile just cannot be the northernmost, you are disseminating false information. The biggest wineyard in Estonia is in Otepää, and there are several others. and Estonia is located north from Latvia, isnt it? Probably there are winehills even in Finland, that is even more up in the north.

Lenna, no problem, if you show us at least one of these vineyards registered in the Guiness World Records Book, we will stop promoting Sabile here. But for now this is the northernmost official vineyard.
